Quick Tip: Removing typing from recordings

If you record a text input in Adobe Captivate then Captivate will create a separate layer on your timeline called “Typing”.

I have had some cases where I wanted to remove this layer again since it showed personal or sensitive information. An example could be your own credit card number if  you are illustrating a purchase process on a website.

Normally you just select the layer and hit delete on your keyboard. However this isn’t possible with these Typing layers.

Instead use the following workaround:

Right click the Typing layer in the timeline.

Now you get the option to “Replace with Text Animation”. Do that and in the Text Animation popup just select OK.

Now you have a “Sample Text” layer, which can be deleted as any other layer in Adobe Captivate.
